Absence from school

To report your child’s absence from school or late arrival to school, please call 832-2828 ext. 401.   If your child is ill and you would like to speak to the nurse, please call ext. 212.

Too Sick to Come to School

Many parents are concerned about when to keep children who have been ill at home.  The following is intended to help parents with this decision.  He/she will not be well enough to attend school if:

  • Your child has a fever of 100 degrees or above during the previous evening or in the morning (last 24 hours).
  • If your child has experienced vomiting or diarrhea during the night or in the morning.
  • If your child has a persistent cough.
  • If your child has a rash of unknown cause.
  • If your child has open or draining skin sores.
  • If your child’s eye is irritated and there is drainage from the eye.
  • If you notice tiny eggs or insects in your child’s hair.

 Emergency Information

Emergency information sheets are kept on all students and it is most important that they be kept up-to-date to be of value.  If your child needs you for any reason, we will use this information to contact you.  Please notify the school of any changes that occur.

 Medications in School

If medication (prescription, non-prescription/over-the-counter) is necessary during the school day, please have the parent or guardian bring the pharmacy labeled medication to the school nurse with the medication authorization form.  This form must be signed by both you and your doctor.  If you do not have a form, please have the doctor write the information on a letterhead note and attach it to a note from yourself.  The school nurse should also be advised of any medication that is being taken at home by your child that may affect his/her performance at school.

Screenings

Hearing, vision, height, weight, and blood pressure screenings are conducted annually for all children in grades K-8. Scoliosis screening is performed biannually for all children ten years of age and older who do not have a physical form on file for that year.  The results of all screenings will be sent home with your child.  If a follow-up appointment with your physician is recommended, you will be contacted by phone and a letter from the school.
